Steamed Enoki Mushrooms

  1. 150 g fresh enoki mushrooms , hard ends (around 1 inch) removed and washed
  2. 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  3. 1 green onion , chopped for garnishing
  4. Garlic sauce

  5. 5 garlic cloves , minced
  6. 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  7. 1/8 teaspoon sugar
  8. 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  9. pinch of salt


  1. Remove the hard roots of enoki mushroom. Clean and slightly drain. Then lay in a plate.
  2. Heat oil and fry chopped garlic until aroma over medium low fire (do not burn the garlic, otherwise you will end up with a bitter taste). Turn off fire; add sugar, soy sauce and pinch of salt. Mix well. Transfer the sauce to serving plate too.
  3. Add chopped fresh chili pepper or this fermented Hunan Chili pepper (this one is not required but I highly recommend adding a small amount.)
  4. Steam for 6 minutes. Drizzle sesame oil and garnish some chopped green onion before serving.
