Classic Monkey Gland Cocktail

  1. 2 ounces gin
  2. 1 ounce orange juice
  3. 1/4 ounce grenadine
  4. Dash of absinthe
  5. Garnish: orange slice


  1. Gather the ingredients.  
  2. Swirl a dash of absinthe in a chilled cocktail glass to coat it, then dump out any excess liqueur.  
  3. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes, pour the gin, orange juice, and grenadine.  
  4. Shake well.  
  5. Strain into the prepared glass.  
  6. Garnish with an orange slice or a burnt orange peel.  
  7. Serve and enjoy!


  1. During the time that absinthe was illegal in the U.S., many bartenders learned to make this drink with Benedictine. While this is also a worthy libation, it has an entirely different profile.
