  1. 2 1/2 cups flour
  2. 1/2 cup sugar
  3. 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  4. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  5. 1/4 teaspoon white vinegar
  6. 3/4 cup whole milk
  7. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  8. 6 tablespoons butter (cold and diced)
  9. 1/4 cup dried sweetened cranberries
  10. 1/4 cup dried cherries
  11. 1 egg (beaten, for brushing the scones)
  12. 1/2 cup coarse sugar (for topping the scones)

  1. Gather the ingredients.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400 F.
  3. Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Combine the vinegar, milk, and vanilla extract in a separate measuring cup.
  5. Add in the chopped butter and mix into the flour with a pastry blender. You can also process the dough in a food processor.
  6. Once the butter is incorporated and you have fine crumbs, add in the whole milk mixture, the dried cranberries, and dried cherries. Combine using a spatula. Be gentle and don't over mix the dough. If it is a little dry then add in a tiny bit more milk.
  7. Lay out the dough on a floured surface and flatten into a round disk. Cut out heart shapes using a heart shaped cookie cutter. You can also just cut it into pie like slices.
  8. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top of the scones with the beaten egg and then sprinkle with the coarse sugar.
  9. Bake for 25 minutes, until golden brown.
  10. Serve with tea and enjoy!
